Susana (Susy) Jaramillo, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain Management at the Fogelman College of Business & Economics, University of Memphis, where she also serves as Co-Coordinator of the PhD Program. Her research focuses on three main areas: service failures and recovery, consumer and employee well-being, and marketing metrics and firm performance. Across these streams, she examines how customers, employees, and organizations navigate service interactions, emotional experiences, technology-enabled encounters, and performance evaluation in ways that are both theoretically meaningful and managerially relevant.
Susana’s work has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Service Research, Journal of Service Management, Psychology & Marketing, and the Journal of Services Marketing. Her scholarship has been supported by multiple funded projects addressing topics such as frontline employee well-being, distracted driving prevention, sustainable packaging, biodiversity credits, and consumer acceptance of bio-based fabrics.
In addition to her research and teaching, Dr. Jaramillo holds several academic leadership and service roles. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Consumer Marketing and as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for the Journal of Service Management. She is also Co-Chair of the Latin America Chapter of the International Research Symposium in Services Management, a founding member of the Women in Marketing Strategy group, and a member of ServCollab’s Early Career Community.
Susana teaches undergraduate and doctoral-level marketing courses and actively mentors doctoral students through dissertation committee service. Prior to joining the University of Memphis, she held academic and administrative roles at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Colombia. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Marketing from the University of Alabama, as well as graduate and undergraduate degrees from Universidad EAFIT.
